Job Description from Civil Service Jobs

You will be responsible for the strategic direction and leadership for a directorate. You will be responsible for working across the whole department, building strong collaborative relationships with your DG colleagues. You will have management responsibility for the analyst group.
The plan will need to be developed in partnership with business. It will need to give them sufficient clarity and certainty so they can make long term investments. The Director General will need to use in house and publicly available data to provide actionable insights to support departmental strategy.
The Director General will need to work with academics to draw on history of what has worked and what hasn't. They will also need to draw on lessons from other countries, using insights from our Trade Commissioners and the FCDO network.
This will be a cross Whitehall endeavour. The Director General will need to work closely with the HMT Chief Economic Advisor, HMT Second Permanent Secretary and DG for Economic Growth and Productivity along with Director Generals across Whitehall. They will need to leverage existing co-ordination led by HMT, building a shared sense of ownership across the prosperity departments. Collaborative working will be essential.
You will need to build on and bring together existing His Majesty’s Governments plans across the five strategic sectors including the Advanced Manufacturing Plan, the Creative Industries and Life Sciences Vision, along with cross cutting plans such as Critical Imports Strategy
